Torch Relay Sparks a Festival of Fun ~ Wednesday 27th June 2012
Bracebridge Heath residents will be sharing in the excitement and build-up to the London 2012 Olympic Games when the Olympic Flame travels through North Kesteven on Wednesday 27 June – exactly one month before the official London 2012 Opening Ceremony on its way to Lincoln on day 40 of the nationwide route.
To celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime spectacle artsNK have been working with the Parish Council and community groups to produce an evening’s entertainment which will include stunning site specific art installations, inventive performance, elegant dance, beautiful music and fantastic food!
Stroll through the woods and you will see a “gallery in the trees” showcasing the talents of the WI; 100 hanging baskets completed by the Gardening & Allotment Clubs; sculptural installations created by the Friendship Club and a history of the area displayed through old photographs. Listen to sound reminisces and an especially composed song by the highly acclaimed singer and composer Jo Freya, mainstay of the British Folk Scene and take part in “Open House” an active drama performed by Limbnall Theatre Group.
The playing field area will host the main arena where a programme of dance and music will play throughout the evening. Get carried away by the Brasshoppers Festival Band, marvel at the energy and dynamism of Beat Box Ben and get inspired by over 100 dancers.
There will be food and refreshments available. As Nick Jones, Visual Arts Manager says: “Together we can make it a special and memorable evening and we hope this community event will light a spark of ambition and inspire the people of Bracebridge Heath to want more. “
