As part of our programme of exhibitions from Lincolnshire based voluntary and community art groups at Whisby Cafe Gallery we are pleased to present this exhibition of botanical drawings from Jackdaws Drawing Club.
Jackdaws is a light-hearted group of illustrators, who meet fortnightly at Harby Village Hall to enjoy the recreation of drawing . On outdoor trips they explore towns and countryside for the plethora of subjects overlooked by the more trend-seeking artist. The group boost each other with positive critical encouragement, therby developing sketches into extensive studies or designs to be completed at home. After expressing an interest in exhibiting at Whisby, artsNK asked the group to work with the theme of ‘botanical’ drawings – looking closely at the flora common to Whisby.
The group commented:
“In this digital age, we pride ourselves in perpetuating this eye to hand skill and hope that drawing will not be lost to the human race. Our world will be a sadder place without the gratification of craftsmanship so, like our club insignia (featuring a jackdaw) we keep hopping about, taking note of the joys of life about us.”
