Cyanotype exhibition

15th February 2018 to 31st March 2018

artsNK  visited One NK’s Dementia Friendship hub to deliver a cyanotype activity for attendees at the start of February. Using natural materials, the group were able to create simple but beautiful prints using light.

Cyanotypes, or sun prints, are created with special paper that has been coated with a chemical that is sensitive to UV light.  When the paper is exposed to the light, a chemical reaction occurs that turns the paper blue.  Where the paper has been protected, or masked, from the light – in this case by using leaves, flowers and lace placed onto the paper – the chemical doesn’t get exposed and the paper stays white.

The resulting images are now on display in the Boardwalk bistro at The Natural World Centre, Whisby Nature Park.

The North Hykeham Dementia Friendship Hub was launched in September 2017 following 1Life’s successful application to join the local Dementia Action Alliance.  Together, North Hykeham Town Council, 1Life and a team of volunteers now host a monthly activity session at ONE NK Leisure Centre.  The group get together to socialise, play a few games and engage in music and arts activities.
