Summer School 2012 MaDDer and MaDDer
artsNK’s 2012 Summer School is set to continue the tradition of high quality arts experiences combined with lots of fun!
From 23 to the 27 July, young people between the ages of 8 and 14 will experience daily workshops in dance, drama and music, working together to create an entertaining and educational piece of performance to show to invited parents and friends. This year’s theme is, understandably, The Olympics, but, instead of looking at the sports themselves, the children will explore three other aspects of the games. First to be explored will be the pre-olympic preparations: the torch relays, celebrations both at home and abroad and how the athletes prepare themselves; secondly, during the games: from the spectators’ points of view and from the perspective of the athletes; and finally the legacy which the games will leave, both in the UK and in other countries as well as with the athletes themselves.
Funded by NK School, the Summer School offers these opportunities to young people who have little or no experience of the arts, in turn signposting them to
other artsNK activities such as the youth dance groups, Action at TOT, the children’s theatre programme at TOT, the drumming group etc.
If the following quotes from those involved last year are anything to go by, participants will have a great time!
