Oars & Spires ~ Row together from Lincoln to Sleaford

artsNK would like to invite you to help with an artistic intervention as part of their Sa Fire Festival being held in the beautiful village of Branston, Lincolnshire on the 16th July. Sa Fire is a series of artistic events that reinterpret and celebrate the stories that have shaped the villages and landscape along the Spires and Steeples Arts and Heritage trail, from Lincoln Cathedral to St Denys Church Sleaford.

Sa Fire is funded by the National Olympiad, a programme of cultural events reflecting the Olympic values of

Respect Friendship Excellence Courage Determination Inspiration and Equality

It’s also funded by the Arts Council to support innovation, quality and engagement in the arts.

Sa Fire in Branston is a whole village event, with installations and performances in the church to the spectacular inflatable “walk in” sculptural space, a labyrinth and site specific sculptures on the

Pavilion Playing Field, Moor Lane.

As an additional ‘installation’ performance we want to invite visitors to row the distance between Lincoln Cathedral and St Denys Sleaford (rowing machines provided)

Oars & Spires is inspired by the digging of the Roman Car Dyke Canal, rescuing the land around Washingborough, Branston, Nocton and down past Sleaford into Norfolk from the sea. It was the start of the long relationship between land owners, farmers and engineers to drain away water and irrigate our crops, from wheat to beat, potatoes to flowers.

We are looking for volunteers to take their seat on the rowing machine and make a contribution to the challenge and to the creation of an unusual, engaging, intriguing and stimulating Sa Fire experience.
