artsNK group Participate are True Motion winners

1st April 2019

artsNK youth dance group Participate were one of two winners of True Motion 2019, the Lincolnshire County Platform for U. Dance. The group competed against talented youth dance groups from across Lincolnshire, at the event which took place at Lincoln Performing Arts Centre on Saturday 16 March.

A panel of industry experts selected Participate with their piece ‘Instinct’  and Gainsborough Academy with ‘Into the Light’ as the winners.

Instinct explored wolf mentalities of loyalty and devotion to the pack which unifies them in times of scarce prey and conflict. Participate developed the narrative of this piece by watching various animal documentaries on animal behaviours in the wild; particularly about Painted Wolves protecting their packs and territory.

Emma Bouch, artsNK Dance Development Co-ordinator who leads the group commented:

‘We were so excited to find out we were one of the groups to be selected for the next round of True Motion 2019 (Udance). Participate worked extremely hard as a team to create the piece and perform it at True Motion. It has been a pleasure for me as their group leader to see how much they have grown and connected as a group. Well done dancers!’

A decision will now be made as to which  group from the East Midlands region will progress to take part at the U.Dance 2019 National Festival taking place at the South Bank Centre, London on 20 and 21 July 2019.

Led by One Dance UK, U.Dance is a national framework that helps improve and inspire dance performance opportunities for children and young people across England.
