Our Dance team were delighted to receive a ukactive Flame Award for their work with young people.
Designed to celebrate organisations shaping the future of physical activity in the UK, the national awards seek to acknowledge small to large fitness facilities, outdoor fitness providers, suppliers, innovations and individuals committed to getting more people, more active, more often.
The artsNK dance development team won the ‘Shaping Young Lives category’, beating off stiff competition from national programmes including Fit for Sport. The award was recognition of the work artsNK does in North Kesteven and beyond to improve the lives of young people through dance.
Amy Dalton, Head of Dance Development for artsNK said:
“We are very proud to have won the Shaping Young Lives award. Participating in dance has a real impact on the young people we work with across Lincolnshire, providing them with a multitude of benefits including fitness, creativity and confidence.
“The dance team are committed to changing young people’s lives through dance and we are delighted to be recognised for our work.”
Another project Managed by North Kesteven District Council and its leisure partner won life, also collected an award; North Kesteven Health Walks won the Go Outdoors award which recognises a programme that engages new audiences and makes positive changes to people’s lives through outdoor physical activity.
Mike Lock, Leisure and Cultural Services Manager for NKDC commented:
“These awards are fantastic as they are nationally acclaimed as rewarding the very best in the industry. They recognise the Council’s commitment to continuing to invest in the health and wellbeing of its residents. “The authority has recently approved a Sports and Physical Activity Strategy with the overall aim of making people more active, more often, and we look forward to working with our partners to deliver this over the coming months and years.”
Matthew Stothard, contract manager for 1Life in North Kesteven, was delighted with the result of the awards.
“The team have worked hard on these programmes for many years and the result is not only these two national awards, but highly successful programmes that are engaging with new people every day. We will continue to work hard to ensure that this success continues.”
NKDC had three of its successful programmes nominated – artsNK Dance, North Kesteven Health Walks and Vitality (an exercise and movement to music programme for the over sixties).
