Have you always wanted to perform on stage, create colourful costumes, help build and paint a fantastic theatre set, or use your talents to design artwork for theatre productions?
ACTion Community Theatre, are holding a Free ‘Community Theatre Taster’ afternoon at The Terry O’Toole Theatre, North Hykeham on Saturday 14th May as part of Voluntary Arts Week 2016. Adults and young people aged 11+ are invited to come along between 2 – 6pm to meet current ACTion members and find out more about how they can get involved either on stage or behind the scenes. The afternoon will include three workshops in music, acting and dance, led by professional performing artists, followed by High Tea in the theatre greenroom!
The event is supported with a small grant from Voluntary Arts week with match funding from artsNK and is one of many events happening across the country between 6th– 15th May as part of Voluntary Arts Week. The yearly festival champions the thousands of voluntary cultural groups who meet across the UK and The Republic of Ireland encouraging people to set up new groups or join existing ones and enjoy the benefits of taking part in a cultural community activity.
Alison Duncombe, Theatre Development Officer and ACTion Committee Member commented:
“ ACTion is delighted to receive the funding to put on this event and would like to encourage anybody interested to come along and find out more about how they can get involved. The group is very friendly and always welcomes new members to join and enjoy getting involved in the fun of putting on a theatre performance, not just on stage but behind the scenes. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to give it a go!”
Those who enjoy the experience will have the opportunity to return to audition for, or get involved behind-the-scenes with, two exciting upcoming ACTion productions: Auditions for their forthcoming production of ‘Ladies Day’ will be held on Sunday 22nd May, at 3pm, then later this summer the group will be auditioning for their hugely popular annual community pantomime, which for this year will be ‘Dick Whittington and the Silver Screen’ by Peta Duncombe.
