redXco Announced as True Motion Winners

17th March 2016

The winner of True Motion 2016 has been announced as redXco!

We are delighted that our hip hop dance company redXco have been selected to perform alongside some of the most talented youth dance groups from across the Midlands next month after winning the county platform True Motion for the second year running!

The group performed in front of a lively audience at LPAC, Lincoln on Saturday 5th March impressing the selection panel with their routine, which was based around the theme of uniting all dancers together no matter what their genre. It showcased a variety of dance styles before ending in a Hip Hop section to unite the group.

redXco competed against 13 other dance groups of all genres from across Lincolnshire, in the competition with some outstanding performances demonstrating the wealth of young dance talent in the county. A panel of dance industry judges deliberated carefully following the competition before announcing redXco as the winners this week.

redXco, who are all aged between 14-19, became the first youth dance group from Lincolnshire ever to be selected to perform at Youth Dance England’s National Festival in 2015, and they are hoping to match this impressive feat again this year. The group will now prepare to represent Lincolnshire at the MY (Midlands Youth) Dance Festival which will take place at The Crescent Theatre, Birmingham on Saturday 16th April. They will join talented young dancers from both the East Midlands and West Midlands qualifiers to celebrate the best of youth dance in the Midlands. Ahead of the event judges will look at videos of all five East Midlands county group winners before selecting two to perform at the National U.Dance Festival taking place at the Lowry, Salford in July.

The events are all part of U. Dance, an annual dance platform run by Youth Dance England which celebrates and showcases the best youth dance from across the country, giving young dancers the opportunity to perform on stage.

Emma Terzza, Community Dance Artist from artsNK who manages redXco said:

We are delighted that redXco have won True Motion for the second year running. They were up against stiff competition at this year’s event, but all the hard work they have put into developing and rehearsing their routine has paid off! The group had the opportunity to work with Kendra and Chaldon, two members of the London-based Bird Gang Dance Company on their choreography this year over a three day residency, and finished feeling really inspired. We will now be keeping our fingers crossed that they can win a place at the National U.Dance event in Salford.”

redXco train weekly at OneNK (North Kesteven Centre), in North Hykeham, Lincoln. Entry to the group is by audition only, but we also run a variety of youth dance classes open to all levels of experience, as well as Aerial fitness classes for both adults and young people – find out  more about these in our Take Part section.
