Artist Hannah Nicklin will be inviting people in North Hykeham to share their stories and asking them about where they grew up during a residency in the town in May and June. The residency is one of four taking place in North Kesteven, with other artists working with communities in Waddington, Welbourn and Sleaford, as part of Ridges & Furrows.
Hannah will make a new piece of listening theatre called Your Home From Here – inspired by the stories she collects from people visiting and living in North Hykeham. The stories will come from conversations which start with the question “tell me about where you grew up”.
‘Listening Theatre’ is performance made to be listened to through headphones – a bit like the ghost tours of York, stories that place the audience member at the centre of them, that happen in the outdoors. Participants will be able to download the finished work, go to a certain place in North Hykeham, and walk a route as a story is told to them. People will also be able to borrow mp3 players (with instructions) from the exhibition if they don’t have their own.
As part of the residency Hannah is also inviting people to attend one of the writing and storytelling workshops she is running. The people who attend these workshops may also be invited to give a reading or exhibit their work at a special Exhibition Event.
