Young people across Lincolnshire are being encouraged to get active and participate in Dance Factor Lincolnshire 2015, with free street dance sessions for 11 – 18 year olds beginning in February.
Dance Factor Lincolnshire takes dance into local communities providing young people with ten weeks of free dance rehearsals with a professional dance artist, and the chance to compete in a local semi-final event to win a place in the Grand Final.
This year’s project has expanded to cover seven districts of Lincolnshire thanks to a successful bid to win £50,000 of funding from the Big Lottery’s People’s Millions in November last year. Thirty new street dance crews will engage more than 750 young people in dance, with sessions taking place in North Kesteven, South Kesteven, East Lindsey, West Lindsey, Lincoln, Boston Borough & South Holland.
Alice Carter, committee member of community group InspireDance, who are leading the project said ‘I am very excited about this year’s Dance Factor. Thanks to Lottery funding we are taking dance to new areas of the county and engaging hundreds of young people in a positive, creative form of physical activity. Young people will gain so much from the project in terms of skill development and personal growth, so it is very rewarding to be able to bring this to Lincolnshire’.
The Grand Final event will take place at The Engine Shed Lincoln, on Sunday 10 May, with finalists battling it out to be crowned Dance Factor Lincolnshire Champions by a panel of dance industry experts.
Young people interested in taking part can find a full list of sessions at dancefactorlincolnshire.weebly.com. There is no need to book – just turn up and dance!
