The NK Arts Partnership have announced the names of four artists selected for residencies in North Kesteven, Lincolnshire, as part of Ridges & Furrows, an ambitious multi art project for the area.
The four residencies will take place in North Hykeham, Waddington, Welbourn and Sleaford in May and June 2015. The selected artists are:
- Hanna Nicklin (North Hykeham)
- Jonathan Turner (Waddington)
- Lyndall Phelps (Welbourn)
- Katie Smith & Kate Genever (Sleaford)
Each of the artists will work closely with communities within their residency location to explore the history and identity of the area. The artists were selected following an open call out at the end of 2014, with the final artists selected after interviews with a panel including representatives from each community.
Initiated by The NK Arts Partnership (artsNK, Design Factory, Design-Nation, the National Centre for Craft & Design and the Terry O’Toole Theatre), the residencies form the first part of Ridges & Furrows, an arts project that celebrates the area’s rich heritage and will culminate in an arts festival across the four locations in 2016. It is hoped that the longer-term legacy of both the residencies and the festival will be the creation of a new arts and heritage trail that links the Terry O’Toole Theatre in North Hykeham and the National Centre for Craft and Design, Sleaford through the participating towns and villages.
Each artist will be developing new work in collaboration with people in each of the four locations -this may take the form of workshops, performances, installations or exhibitions. A public sharing event will take place in each location, where outcomes from the residencies are presented.
